Our coffee blends are named after legendary surf spots along the West Coast of California. Here are a few of our current blends and some facts about the surf spots and point breaks that inspired them.
Inspired by time spent at the beach house our family built in Malibu, just a short walk from one of the most iconic point breaks in the world, Surfrider Beach. This was the epicenter where surf culture exploded in the late 1950s and 60s. Some of the surf legends of the day included Mickey Dora, Johnny Fain, and Lance Carson. Even the Hawaiian surfer Duke Kamehameha surfed here!
— Consisting of five named breaks, Church, Middles, Lowers, Uppers, and Cottons, for many surfers, it's the best surf spot in the world. Consistently fun and a classic reef/point break, with perfect-peeling left and right-hand breaks. It is said that if you tire of surfing at Trestles, you're probably tired of surfing.
Nestled on the border between Ventura and Santa Barbara counties in Southern California, Rincon Point, or "Queen of the Coast," is considered by many to be one of the 10 best waves in the world. Over the years, some of the top Malibu surfers, including Mickey Dora, Lance Carlson, and Joe Quigg, found inspiration here. In the 1960s, locals like Renolds Yater began to develop the Santa Barbara point-surt style. It's also home to the prestigious Rincon Classic surf contest and is sort of the winter counterpoint to Surfrider Beach in Malibu.
Mavericks is a winter destination renowned for hosting some of the best big wave surfers in the world. When the waves are pumping, they typically average around 25 feet and can reach heights of over 60 feet. The name "Mavericks" is derived from a dog that belonged to Alex Matienzo, who, along with Jim Thompson and Dick Notmeyer, was one of the first to surf at Mavericks in 1967.
